Carson Middle School student in custody after bringing toy airsoft gun to class
There was an incident Wednesday morning at Carson Middle School in which a student brought a toy airsoft gun to class, Carson City School District officials confirmed.
Parents were sent a message via ParentSquare notifying them of the incident, which stated that a toy airsoft gun was found in a classroom on the floor next to a student backpack.
The school sent the message at 10:42 a.m. to Carson Middle School parents, family and staff via ParentSquare.
School administrators were notified and with the assistance of School Resources Officers the item was secured and a student was taken into custody, according to the message.
"As you may know, airsoft guns resemble real weapons, but are actually toy replicas designed to shoot plastic projectiles. We cannot emphasize enough how seriously we take a situation like this," the message states. "Our students did a great job following rules and communicating with staff and our campus is secure and safe."
"If your child has any concerns, counselors and administrators will remain available on campus to discuss and support. We encourage parents and guardians to please talk to your students about the importance of communicating any threatening behavior to a responsible adult. Thank you!," the message concluded.
