1) What in your background do you believe makes you a great candidate for Carson City supervisor?
From 2003 through 2011 I worked for the fiscal agent for Nevada Medicaid as an electronic claims coordinator. In the first year in that role we were able enroll 50 percent of the Medicaid Providers into the electronic billing program. By enrolling Medicaid Providers to submit their claims electronically it reduced claims processing costs to the State of Nevada by up to 50 percent cost savings.
One of the other more rewarding duties that I performed was to travel across the State of Nevada with the Provider Training Team and host training workshops. This was very rewarding because I got to work directly with Medicaid Providers and present a technology solution that allowed their claims to be paid in a more efficient manner that was carbon neutral and which enabled them to focus on providing higher quality care to Medicaid recipients.
As most children of small business owners I have had the privilege of working for small business at a younger than average age. This has instilled a work ethic that I carry with me today.
2) What do you believe is the biggest issue facing Carson City currently?
Carson City is growing. With growth come challenges. Some of the challenges that I see that Carson City is facing is making sure that we have enough water for the community. Carson also relies on tourism and so we are constantly faced with the challenges of keeping our roads properly maintained.
3) What do you think the solution to that problem is?
One for the water issue is to capture more water run-off or a water catchment system. We need to continue to explore solutions to make sure that everyone has access to water while maintaining costs to the consumer. One possibility to address the issues of our roads would be to explore our current tax structure to ensure that we are properly funded so that the roads can be maintained. One possible solution would be to explore a modest hotel room tax.
4) What would you like the board or the city to focus on in the next five years?
One of the things that we should take another look at is the mixed zoning that we have in Carson City. We should consider taking another look at our master plan and consider revising it to clean up the mixed-use zoning so that undesirable businesses do not end up being built next to residential neighborhoods. We need clearly defined industrial areas to attract business owners to relocate to the area without ambiguity.
5) What is one thing you would like the voters to know about you or your platform?
I have worked hard all my life and I come from humble beginnings. I have never had anything handed to me. As an example when I was working as an electronic claims coordinator I worked full time and also attended University of Phoenix where I graduated with honors with a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology. I will work hard for the people of Carson City. I am here to serve. I am here to listen.
