Nevada Assemblyman Greg Smith sworn into legislative seat once held by his late wife
Nevada Assemblyman Greg Smith, D-Sparks, was sworn in to office by Nevada Supreme Court Justice James Hardesty at the Legislative Building in Carson City on Wednesday.
Smith, 56, a retired union apprenticeship program administrator, was appointed to the vacant District 30 seat by Washoe County Commissioners after Assemblyman Mike Sprinkle resigned earlier this month following sexual harassment claims.
“We are pleased to have Mr. Greg Smith join the Nevada State Legislature with his appointment to Assembly District 30," said Nevada Assembly Speaker Jason Frierson. "Greg has more than three decades of experience advocating on behalf of working families in our state and is well aware of the tasks at hand. There is no doubt that Greg will serve in the Legislature with honor and integrity and is fully prepared to represent the people of District 30.”
Smith's wife was the late Nevada State Senator Debbie Smith who died in 2016 of brain cancer. She had served terms in the same seat now occupied by her husband, Assembly District 30, before being elected in 2012 to the District 13 Nevada Senate seat.
