Carson City's Sena Loyd announces candidacy for Assembly District 40
On Friday, March 13, Carson City resident Sena Loyd filed as a candidate for State Assembly District 40. Loyd, 36 and a registered Democrat, is an information professional currently working in the high-tech industry. Previously she served as the Library Director for the Carson City Library from 2014-2019.
“It would be an honor to serve in the Nevada Assembly so I will be respectfully asking the voters of Assembly District 40 to consider my candidacy. I intend to leverage my experience as an information professional to efficiently bring trusted technology solutions and accurate, trusted information to Nevadans so they may more readily participate in addressing statewide challenges. At the same time, better access to accurate information will help Nevadans capitalize on opportunities – especially when it comes to helping residents get the training and credentials necessary for good middle class jobs,” said Loyd.
As Carson City Library Director, and appointed public officer, Loyd managed a balanced budget and staff which supported, on average, 1,300 visits each day to the Carson City Library. Also, in 2018, she was responsible for a major project that refreshed space in the Library. The project was completed under budget and increased efficiency, capacity, and accessibility of the building for training, meeting and collaboration.
Under Loyd’s leadership, the Carson City Library was named among the top 14 library in America by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Additionally, as a registered lobbyist for the Nevada Library Association and the City of Carson City in 2017, she helped secure $500,000 for Nevada’s public libraries statewide. Appointed by Governor Sandoval, from 2015 – 2019, Loyd represented libraries on the Nevada Commission on Education Technology.
Prior to her time as the Carson City Library Director, Loyd was the @Two Digital Learning Manager helping to bridge the digital divide for all ages, and Research Library Manager at the Nevada Department of Transportation in Carson City. She is a member of the Western Nevada College Foundation and Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada Advisory Committee.
Loyd received her Bachelors in Anthropology with a minor in Holocaust, Genocide and Peace studies from the University of Nevada, Reno and then attended San Jose State University and received a Master’s in Library and Information Science. She resides in Carson City with her husband Joseph Spencer, and their two rescue pups Tucker and Riley. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to audiobooks courtesy of the Carson City Library and hiking on Carson and Washoe Valley trails.
