The Nevada Highway Patrol conducted a sobriety checkpoint at Clear Acre Lane and Scottsdale Road from Saturday night into early Sunday morning, 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. During that time, troopers contacted 1,247 motorists that traveled through the checkpoint.
Field sobriety tests were conducted 33 times, resulting in numerous arrests. 10 individuals were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and 1 motorist was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant.
Unfortunately, far too many lives are lost and families are changed permanently due to impaired driving crashes. Impaired driving is not just alcohol; it is anything that impairs your ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Impaired driving not only puts your life and the lives of others in danger, but the cost of driving under the influence is extremely high. Drivers that are driving impaired can expect the average cost of a DUI to exceed $10,000 with legal fees, court fines, and higher insurance rates, along with jail time, DUI classes, and license suspensions.
The intent of this checkpoint was to encourage sober designated drivers and remove impaired motorists from our roadways. NHP has a plan to arrest every driver that chooses to drive impaired. Make sure your plan includes a sober driver. Drive safe, Nevada.
