Lyon County Sheriff's Office: Suspect remains at large following Fernley bank robbery
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is investigating a bank robbery that happened Wednesday afternoon in Fernley where the suspect remains at large.
At around 4 p.m. Lyon County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to 250 Highway 95A Fernley, Nevada State Bank, for a report of a robbery. Patrol deputies arrived and contacted the staff inside the bank, who confirmed that a bank robbery had happened.
The description of the suspect was a male adult, in his 20’s, with dark complexion. The man was further described as wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and a beanie hat. Deputies are currently searching the area for the suspect who fled. The FBI was contacted and they are enroute to take over the investigation.
No one was injured during this incident. At this time there is no further information available. While not everyone is on Facebook, Lyon County Sheriff's Office refers to its Facebook page for more information.
UPDATE 6:52PM from the Lyon County Sheriff's Office: As of 6:30 p.m., the suspect has not been located. An undisclosed amount of money was taken as a result of the robbery after the suspect presented a note demanding money.
The suspect fled the area and deputies will remain on the lookout as the evening continues. The FBI has taken over the investigation and will be the point of contact going forward. If anyone has any information regarding this incident they are encouraged to contact Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900.
The bank closed pursuant to the robbery and should resume normal operation Thursday. No further updates are anticipated to be released at this time.
