Statewide unemployment declines since December; Carson City at 5.6 percent, 4.9 percent in Reno
Carson City's unemployment rate edged downward slightly to 5.6 percent for the first month of 2021, with Reno at 4.9 percent and Las Vegas at 9.9 percent, according to a report released Wednesday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
Nevada’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8.1 percent in January 2021, significantly higher than 3.7 percent in January 2020, due to the COVID pandemic. Seasonally adjusted estimates account for regularly seen economic patterns, and the rest of the estimates in the release have not been seasonally adjusted.
The previous report for December 2020, showed Carson City's unemployment was 5.7 percent. In Reno it was 5 percent, and Las Vegas, 10.4 percent.
Elsewhere for the January 2021 report, the Nevada county with the lowest unemployment rate was in Eureka County at 3.1 percent, while Clark County had the highest rate of the counties at 9.9 percent.
Since December 2020, Humboldt County remained unchanged; five counties increased by 0.1 percentage points; and the remaining eleven counties decreased. Go here for unemployment rates for the rest of the state.
