Intoxicated man who told Carson City deputy he'd call for ride home arrested for DUI

A man was arrested early Saturday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and failure to maintain a traffic lane after having told a deputy he was going to call for a ride service and then later seen leaving in his vehicle, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Deputies responded at 12:59 a.m. to a casino on William Street in reference to an intoxicated subject refusing to leave. Deputies arrived and met with casino staff who said the man had since left. They said he was highly intoxicated and causing problems around the casino gaming tables and refused to leave.

While a deputy was leaving the casino, he was flagged down by casino staff who said the man was back on scene and was trying to get a room for the night. A deputy contacted the male subject outside in the parking lot near the front door.

The officer advised that he wasn't allowed back in the casino property for the night. The man refused to identify himself and eventually provided a deputy with identification. He had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person, and had a difficult time standing and balancing, the arrest report states.

The man advised he understood the reason for the trespass and complied. The officer asked him if he had anything to drink that night. The man reported having consumed alcoholic beverages. The officer informed the man not to drive due to the possible amount of alcohol he consumed.

The man agreed and told the deputy he was by himself and had nobody to take him home. The man advised he would be requesting an Uber to get him home. The man was released.

As the officer sat in his vehicle writing notes on the call, he observed the man get into his vehicle and leave the parking lot of the casino. The officer followed the vehicle, observing the man make an incomplete stop prior to entering the intersection, making a wide right turn onto William Street, causing him to drive over the white line and then proceeded driving over the solid lane, the arrest report states.

The officer initiated a traffic stop. The man agreed to field sobriety tests, and showed signs of impairment on the tests. He provided a partial preliminary breath sample of .189. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail he provided one of two evidentiary breath tests, telling the officer "you're only getting one breath and that's it."

The man was advised of the consequences for refusing the tests. He remained silent, ignoring the officer. Due to the man refusing to provide an adequate breath test, deputies contact the on-call Carson City deputy district attorney and updated him on the incident.

The deputy district attorney contacted a judge who provided a search warrant to obtain a sample of the man's blood. The warrant was granted and the tests were completed. The man was booked for suspicion of DUI and failure to maintain a lane. Bail: $1,224.
