Carson City arrests: Man jailed for suspected burglary at Highway 50 East business park
A 55-year-old man was arrested early Thursday for suspicion of felony burglary and drug charges, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report states.
Thomas Forbes Lynch, listed as a transient, was arrested at 2:33 a.m. in the 3500 block of Highway 50 East. According to the arrest report, a deputy was patrolling and activated his lights in a auto repair, vehicle related business park due to the area not having much lighting.
The officer noticed Lynch standing between two vehicles. The man turned around and looked directly at the officer and then walked away from the vehicles and into an opening of a business entry. The deputy asked the man if he worked at the business. The man stated he did not, the report states.
The officer notified dispatch of his location. The officer asked what he was doing between the vehicles and why he was attempting to get into a closed business. The man responded saying he was trying to use the restroom. The officer replied that it was 2 in the morning and that he was in a closed business park.
Since there were several vehicles in the parking area, the officer asked the man which vehicle was his. Lynch stated none of the vehicles were his and then stated he was helping a friend move items from a storage unit, the report states.
The officer asked where the friend was. The man replied he didn't know where she was. The officer did a pat down of Lynch and located a large knife in his right pant pocket. Th officer removed the knife. The man gave the officer consent to search him. The officer removed a cell phone, some change, chap-stick tubes and a casino player's card with his name on it.
Another deputy arrived on scene and went to the doorway where the man was attempting to get inside. The deputy located three plastic bags that were in the doorway where the man was standing. Inside the bags was a large amount of change, needle nose pliers, flashlights, a miniature metal prying tool and a box of chocolates. There was also approximately 10 casino player's card with another person's name on them. The deputy asked the man if he knew the person on the cards. Lynch said he did not, the report states.
Deputies continued the investigation into a vehicle in the parking lot. The officer noticed an empty box of chocolates in the rear of a vehicle. The chocolates were the same ones in the plastic bag where the man had been standing, according to the report.
A deputy read Lynch his Miranda warning and he agreed to speak. The man stated he was in the area because he was at nearby casinos. He said he went to the storage unit to help a friend get a blanket and that he needed to use the restroom. He said he noticed the door of a vehicle slightly ajar and so he opened the door. He stated he went into the vehicle to get coins. The officer informed the man he was under arrest for suspicion of burglary and possession of burglary tools, the report states.
Lynch was told about the plastic bags and he said he didn't know anything about the bags and that someone must have been doing the same thing he was doing, the report states.
The deputy opened one of the white chap-stick containers and located white shards of methamphetamine. Also located was a loaded hypodermic needle in his sock. Later at jail deputies located two Lorazepam pills that he did not have a prescription for. Bail amounted listed: $28,637.
