Carson City Sheriff's Office: Excessive speeding is common, sometimes deadly factor in crashes
In 2020, 314 vehicle crash fatalities were reported in Nevada, speeding and impairment were the leading cause of these fatalities. As of this press release, 48 fatalities have been reported in Nevada for 2021.
That number, sadly, continues to rise.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is joining forces with other Nevada Law Enforcement agencies to increase enforcement on speeding violations from March 15 through March 29.
In Carson City, school zones, construction zones, neighborhoods, downtown business districts and country roads are all posted with specific speed limit signs. We continue to respond to crashes in all of these areas simply because drivers refuse to pay attention to speed limit signs and drive without regard to others.
The excuses are never ending and they are never a valid reason for exceeding the posted speed limit. Be responsible, slow down, drive the speed limit and arrive safely.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office remains dedicated to bringing the number of fatalities on our roadways to zero through increasing public awareness about the dangers of speeding. More information about safe driving and the state’s Zero Fatalities goal is available online at www.ZeroFatalitiesNV.com.
