Two Carson City men jailed, suspected of holding apartment residents at gunpoint

Two men were taken into custody late Monday after allegedly breaking into a Woodside Drive apartment earlier that morning and holding those inside at gunpoint, a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report states.

Taylor Quinten, 20, and Justin Jackson, 21, both of Carson City, were booked at 10:48 p.m. Both were arrested for suspicion of home invasion with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit home invasion and burglary with a deadly weapon. Jackson was also booked for felony Parole and Probation violation, Department of Alternative Sentencing violation and being in possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

According to the arrest report, deputies were advised Monday evening of a home invasion that happened earlier that morning in the 1000 block of Woodside Drive at an apartment unit.

It was reported that three unidentified male subjects had forced their way through the front door of a residence and held those inside at gunpoint. The three male suspects demanded to know where a person was, saying the person had taken "$10,000 worth of stuff" from them and they were going to get the person, the arrest report states.

When the suspects realized the person they were looking for didn't live there, the men fled the scene. The suspects were said to have used a rifle with a wood stock, a black revolver and a black shotgun, the arrest report states.

Later, at approximately 9:56 p.m. deputies were dispatched to another Woodside drive apartment unit in reference to two subjects attempting to get into an apartment. Dispatch advised the male subjects had a rifle and that the two suspects were associated with a gray Volkswagen Passat.

Deputies arrived and observed the vehicle parked approximately 20 yards from the apartment unit. A deputy observed a male subject with his head in the passenger portion of the vehicle. The officer drew his handgun and instructed the male, identified as Quinten Taylor, to place his hands up. The suspect stood straight up and placed his hands in the air, the arrest report states.

Another Carson City deputy arrived on scene. One of the arresting officers asked Taylor where the other subject was. Taylor said the other man, later identified as Justin Jackson, was in the driver's seat of the Passat.

Multiple Carson City deputies arrived and both men were detained. Deputies approached the vehicle and conducted a security sweep and observed a shotgun with a wooden stock leaning against the center console and into the passenger floorboard of the vehicle, the arrest report states.

Dispatch advised Jackson was on parole through the Nevada Department of Parole and Probation and on Carson City Department of Alternative Sentencing. Parole and Probation was contacted and advised of the situation. The P&P officer advised Justin Jackson was prohibited from possessing any firearms and requested a hold for probation violation.

Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and seized the shotgun on the passenger side of the vehicle. The officer found a shotgun shell in the chamber as well as 4 additional shells in the magazine. Deputies located and seized a 9mm handgun under the driver's seat that had a fully loaded magazine and no round in the chamber.

Officers found black gloves in the glove box and seized two cell phones, one on the passenger seat and the other on the driver's side front floorboard. All items seized were booked into evidence, the report states.

The two men were positively identified as 2 of the 3 subjects in the home invasion from earlier that day, the arrest report states. Deputies investigating the second incident later that night learned the two men stepped out of the vehicle, with Taylor holding a shotgun and Jackson with a handgun.

Deputies learned through the investigation that the two men went to an apartment unit and pretended to knock on the door and jiggled the door handle while holding the firearms, the arrest report states.

Both suspects were arrested for suspicion of the crimes. Jackson is being held without bail for the parole and probation violation. Bail amounts listed for Quinten, $82,500.

All information for the crime log (unless otherwise noted) comes from the arrest reports supplied by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, and is considered by law to be public information. All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The policy of Carson Now is to name anyone who is arrested for a felony offense.
