NHP releases body camera footage of intense moments leading to pileup north of Reno
The Nevada Highway Patrol has released body camera footage of Tuesday morning's multi-vehicle crash on Highway 395 and Panther Valley.
See the video here.
The following is from NHP's Facebook page, which sets up the video:
Here’s a look at why US-395 and Panther Valley in Reno was shut down this morning. These 20 crashes happened within the span of 30 minutes and were the result of motorists traveling too fast for the icy roadway conditions. Sgt. Franco’s several hours on scene were spent taking crash reports, checking on injuries, and coordinating resources to shut the highway down to prevent any further injuries and crashes (side note - if you work well under stress like Sgt. Franco, we're hiring).
There’s a common theme in weather-related crashes and it comes down to your speed. If there’s inclement weather or slick road conditions, you absolutely need to slow down and give yourself plenty of following distance and time to react. The posted speed limit is meant for ideal weather conditions with dry pavement; traveling at highway speeds with ice or snow on the roadway is not advised.
We’re expecting more winter weather over the next few days. Please slow down and keep yourself safe, keep yourself visible, and wear your seatbelt. If you need our assistance, don’t hesitate to call *NHP. #holymoly
