Sex offender arrested for making shank while in custody at Carson City Jail
A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested on a felony charge of possession of a dangerous weapon by an incarcerated person after allegedly making a shank to protect himself while in custody at the Carson City Jail.
According to the report, Mario Jesus Quevedo was booked on the additional crime after a trustee told deputies “the guy in that bunk made a shank out of an ajax lid.”
The trustee was referring to Quevedo, who had moved into the pod earlier that morning.
Deputies searched Quevedo’s cell and deputies located “a 2-inch piece of metal wrapped in toilet paper for a grip under his mattress near where his head goes,” according to the deputies.
Deputies asked what the item was and why he made it, and Quevedo at first denied that he had made it as a shank, but when deputies asked what he could use it for other than a shank, he did not have an explanation.
Eventually Quevedo stated that he was in fear for his life which is why he made the shank, because he had a sex offense and did not feel safe in a non-protective custody pod.
According to prior arrest reports, that sex offense is involving a minor, after Quevedo and his partner were arrested for giving a 15-year-old methamphetamine and attempting to impregnate her with a turkey baster since the couple could not get pregnant themselves.
Deputies booked him on the additional felony crime.
Additional bail: $20,000
— A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of Roop and Corbett for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving without a valid driver’s license, registration, or insurance.
According to the arrest report, Jacob Fearn was arrested just after 2 a.m. after deputies noticed a white truck without license plates driving east on Long Street. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and immediately recognized Fearn from prior interactions.
Learn has an extensive history of possession of a controlled substance, according to deputies, as well as drug use.
Fearn told deputies he was driving the vehicle on behalf of a friend, and did not have a driver’s license, and was unable to provide insurance or vehicle registration.
Deputies located a glass pipe associated with methamphetamine usage in his pockets and Fearn was placed under arrest.
At the jail, Fearn admitted to having methamphetamine on his person. Deputies located three bags of methamphetamine on his person, altogether weighing 2.9 grams.
Deputies also located an NHP sergeant badge in his possession. NHP advised there were no outstanding missing or stolen sergeant badges, but asked deputies to confiscate the badge for safekeeping.
Deputies also located three small chips, similar to those found in credit and debit cards, within his property. Deputies booked the chips into evidence, forwarding the report to the Investigations Division for a follow-up on potential fraudulent credit or debt card usage.
