Free Grow Your Own High Elevation Gardening Workshops begin March 2
The 2022 High Elevation Garden Workshops/Grow Your Own Series begins next week! Enjoy instruction that will cover river/lake friendly gardening and cultivation techniques, various strategies to apply based on the local growing environment, history/background on featured plants, and information on how to garden organically at high altitude.
These family-friendly workshops are in collaboration with UCCE Lake Tahoe Master Gardeners, University of Nevada Reno Desert Farming Initiative, UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center, and Slow Food Lake Tahoe. Be a part of the grow-your-own community and share your garden experience.
All workshops are FREE and locally grown plants can be purchased for $15 (per workshop). These specific plants are featured in each workshop and are part of a long-term phenology study that will determine the plants that grow best in our region.
Register for each workshop to receive the link to attend the virtual workshop. All workshops will be recorded (and posted on the @UCDavisTahoe YouTube page) for participants to watch at any time if you are unable to attend the live workshop or if you would like to refer back to it throughout the planting and harvesting process.
All virtual presentations are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
In-person classes will be at Slow Food Lake Tahoe in Truckee on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
All proceeds benefit local participating non-profit groups.
Topics include germinating from seed, growing mushrooms, gardening 101, growing everything from leafy greens to root vegetables, and much more.
