Carson City Sheriff: Suspect in standoff with deputies shot after charging neighbor
UPDATE. The following is a news release from Sheriff Furlong. At 6:50 a.m., Feb. 22, deputy sheriff’s from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office reported an officer Involved shooting at the intersection of North Curry Street and East Adeline Street. The incident took place following a 2-hour standoff with a suspect who was believed to be burglarizing cars in the area.
At 4:34 a.m., the sheriff’s dispatch was notified that an adult male was in the process of stealing catalytic converters from vehicles. When deputies arrived at the scene, they encountered the suspect who was threatening and displaying an active lit torch, a machete, and a knife strapped to his wrist.
A standoff ensued for approximately 2 hours while deputies attempted to verbally gain control of the suspect. A Sheriff’s Office Mental Health Crisis Team was on scene assisting. The suspect remained agitated and aggressive. At approximately 6:50 a.m., a nearby resident exited his house from the garage and the suspect charged at the man. The suspect was then shot.
The suspect was treated at the scene by fire/paramedics and transported to Renown Medical Center. The name of the suspect and deputies involved are not being released at this time. The suspects condition is serious, but not believed to be life threatening at this time. No other injuries were reported. The deputy sheriff who fired at the suspect has been placed on administrative leave.
The incident is being investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and State Investigations Division.

A vehicle parts burglary suspect involved in a standoff Tuesday morning with Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies was shot by officers and taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. No officers were injured.
The incident happened in the area Adeline and Curry streets and involved a male adult who was armed with a machete knife and torch who appeared to be in the process of stealing a catalytic converter from a vehicle, said Sheriff Furlong.
The situation intensified and a standoff with the suspect ensued for at least an hour and a half. The situation escalated when the suspect charged at a neighbor shortly before 7 a.m. in which a deputy shot the suspect, said Sheriff Furlong.
The suspect was taken by ambulance to Renown Medical Center in Reno. Their condition is unknown at this time. According to Sheriff Furlong, no officers were hurt.
The incident, as per agreement, will be investigated by an outside law enforcement agency, said Furlong.
