New Carson City festival ‘Mark Twain Days’ slated for April 2023
A new festival for Carson City was discussed today at the Board of Supervisors meeting: Mark Twain Days.
Mark Twain Days will take place in April 2023 as a new annual festival celebrating the history of Carson City and Mark Twain.
“As Mark Twain once said, ‘Never let the truth get in the way of a good story,’” said Carson City Supervisor Stacey Giomi.
The festival is looking at a location downtown, and is slated to take place April 21-23, 2023 corresponding to the day of Mark Twain’s death on April 23.
“We are looking to create a newspaper that has Mark Twain “witty-isms” in the paper,” said Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell. “We’ll be looking at a sample for that tomorrow.”
Mayor Bagwell is working with Visit Carson City who is currently working on creating the new festival.
In addition, the annual Carson City Christmas Ornament will feature the Orion Clemens home, the home of Mark Twain’s brother in Carson City, who was the first and only secretary of the Nevada Territory.
The ornament will feature Mark Twain in a rocking chair with his pipe at the home.
“We don’t celebrate enough of our history, and so we selected Mark Twain for the event,” said Mayor Bagwell. It should be a really good time.”
