UPDATE: Firefighters battle nearly 4,000 acre Airport Fire east of Bishop; zero containment
UPDATE: Cal Fire is reporting the Airport fire has grown to 3,900 acres with zero percent containment.

A wildland fire that started Wednesday afternoon east of Bishop in the Owens Valley of Inyo County, and is threatening 150 structures including the CalTech Radio Observatory, has burned 2800 acres, according to Cal Fire.
The Airport Fire was active overnight, burning to the south. Firefighters are actively engaged in perimeter and structure defense, according to Cal Fire. As of Thursday morning there was no containment.
Under evacuation is Big Pine east of Highway 395, the White Mountain Research Center, Owens Valley (Caltech) Radio Observatory. An evacuation center is opened at the Bishop Senior Center.
Roads are closed at Warm Springs Road east of Highway 395 and Highway 168 east of Highway 395.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
