Widespread cable and internet outage affects Lake Tahoe, Carson Valley customers
UPDATE 10:33 p.m. Most Internet and cable service for customers in the South Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley region has been restored, according to Charter.
The severed fiber optic lines above the railroad tracks at Airport Road in Minden were reconnected one-by-one. According to Charter, there can be thousands of wires in each line.

UPDATE 5:35 pm: Charter Communications estimates their crews will have services restored to the region by 8:00 p.m. Friday night.
This morning, a garbage truck backed into some aerial fiber optic lines in Minden, Nev., causing them to snap in half. The restoration job is normally a 9-10 hour task. The accident occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m., Friday.
Undersheriff Paul Howell of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department told South Tahoe Now that their crews were initially dispatched to the scene, but called off by East Fork Fire when it was determined to not be a vehicle accident.

Customers of Charter Communications are experiencing an outage in Carson Valley and South Lake Tahoe region. Internet, cable and phone services are affected.
According to Charter, the outage is widespread. Technicians are on actively working to restore services.
The outage appears to affect Charter customers and Verizon customers in South Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley including Minden and Gardnerville. No estimated time of restoration has been given.
