NHP identifies Silver Springs man who died in Highway 50 crash Friday
The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a 40-year-old Lyon County man who died in a Friday, Feb. 8 vehicle crash that happened on Highway 50 in Silver Springs.
Michael Anthony Gazard, 40, of Silver Springs, died as a result of the accident that happened at around 6 p.m. Friday on Highway 50 near the intersection with Topaz Street in Silver Springs.
Preliminary investigation shows that a white 2006 Ford F-350 pickup was traveling southbound on Topaz Street approaching the intersection with US-50. A silver 2003 Infiniti M45 sedan was traveling eastbound on US-50 approaching the intersection with Topaz Street, according to NHP.
The driver of the Ford F-350 failed to yield the right of way and entered the intersection causing the front of the Infiniti sedan to strike the front of the Ford F-350. The vehicles came to rest in the eastbound travel lane and outside shoulder. Both drivers were transported via CareFlight to Renown Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Infiniti sedan, Michael Anthony Gazard, died of injuries he sustained in the crash and passed away later that evening. The eastbound travel lane was closed at the time of the crash and rerouted until the roadway was cleared at 11:25 PM. Impairment is suspected in this crash, according to NHP.
The Nevada Highway Patrol is seeking additional witnesses to this crash.
