Over 234,000 meals provided by FISH in Carson City since June 2021, among many other services
Carson City’s Friends In Service Helping, also known as FISH, had a busy year providing meals, housing services, showers, laundry and more to the community in 2022.
FISH has been operating as a non-profit in Carson City since May 1979, with 90 percent of their funding coming through community support and donations.
From July 2021 through Dec. 2022, 7,274 individual households were served, which included 819 veterans, 2,459 individuals with disabilities, and 1,897 individuals experiencing homelessness.
FISH also helped 840 new households during this timeframe.
Of those individuals who were assisted, 7,726 were from Carson City, 2,477 from Douglas County, 1,683 from Lyon, 14 from Storey, and 164 from Washoe.
FISH also served 234,493 meals, and just shy of 13,000 dining room meals during that time period.
During 2022, FISH helped 16 clients graduate from FISH serves into their own permanent housing, provided 1,520 showers, 325 laundry services, and helped 219 individuals with utility assistance.
FISH also helps house individuals experiencing homelessness through three shelters: the Wylie Women’s Shelter, which offered shelter to 144 individuals, the Focus Men’s Shelter, which offered shelter to 263 individuals, and the Family Shelter, which offered shelter to 111 individuals.
Currently, FISH is in the process of building the FISH Student Housing Revitalization Project. They have raised just over half of the $16 million total needed to complete the project, and are actively fundraising for the remaining costs.
A match campaign is currently active, with an anonymous donor matching each dollar donated up to $250,000 until Jan. 31, 2023.
As of publication, FISH has raised $61,541 of its $250,000 goal.
