Carson City Supervisors approve additional financing for Emergency Operations Center
Carson City Supervisors last week unanimously approved a contract with CORE West, Inc. in the next phase of the Emergency Operations Center.
The Emergency Operations Center was previously approved by both the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors, and has completed its initial design phase.
CORE West Inc. was selected as the project’s Construction Manager at Risk for the design phase, and their contract for the construction phase was also approved at the Feb. 1 board of supervisors meeting.
In addition, a supplement of $500,000 from the city’s ambulance fund was approved to help cover an inflation-related funding shortfall.
The contract for the completion of the Emergency Operations Center’s completion was initially for an amount not to exceed $15.6 million. However, with inflation costs, the project is now estimated to cost around $18.4 million.
By employing a CMAR, the contract ensures a guaranteed maximum price the city will spend on the project. Anything over the $18.4 million will have to be paid by the CMAR, should additional project funds be needed.
When complete, the Emergency Operations Center will house a new fire station, the city’s IT Department, and a backup dispatch station.
The project will include an approximately 17,700 square foot facility and will be located on the south side of Butti Way, just east of the Public Works Administration Building.
The project is slated to be completed by fall of 2025.
