Carson City man, 78, identified in fatal US-50 crash, suspect driver jailed for DUI causing death
Nevada State Police has identified the victim driver in a fatal crash that happened Saturday at the intersection of US-50 and College Parkway in Carson City. The driver suspected of causing the crash was booked for suspicion of felony DUI causing death.
Theodore Daryl Richardson, 78, died at the scene of the crash, according to Nevada State Police.
A preliminary investigation revealed that on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Troopers responded to a reported crash at the intersection US50 and College Parkway, in Carson City.
Upon arrival, it was determined that a white Ram 1500 pickup was traveling westbound on US50 approaching the intersection at College Parkway. At the same time, a red Dodge Journey was traveling northbound on Fairview Drive approaching the intersection of US50.
The white Ram failed to yield to the red traffic signal and entered the intersection. The front of the Ram struck the right side of the Dodge Journey.
The driver of the Dodge Journey, Richardson, 78, succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene.
The driver of the white Ram was identified as Edward Frank Barbosa. Barbosa was arrested by Nevada State Police and booked into the Carson City Jail on the following charges for allegedly driving under the influence causing death and failure to obey a traffic control device.
The was the second fatal crash and second fatality for 2023, according to Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol, Northern Command West.
