Three teens in custody in connection to Tuesday night shootings in Carson City

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong issued the following information Wednesday morning into Tuesday night's shootings. A Lyon County teen remains hospitalized after being shot in the face. Three teenagers are in custody and the investigation remains active. The updated information is in the news release below:

On Tuesday evening at 7:03 p.m., Jan. 24, 2023, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office received 911 calls of a shooting actively taking place at the 3300 block of East Carmine Street in East Carson City. At 7:06, three minutes later, the Sheriff’s Office received reports of a gunshot victim in a vehicle located near the intersection of Sherman Lane and Concord Drive, approximately one-half mile away.

At 7:13, additional reports were received of another gunshot victim at the 3000 block of Carmine Street. Sheriff’s and Carson City fire/paramedics were dispatched to each of the locations.

Paramedics arrived at the Sherman Lane and Concord scene and treated a victim identified as a 16-year-old Lyon County juvenile with a gunshot wound to the face. The juvenile was transported to Renown Medical Center by Care Flight in critical condition.

Additional medical units treated a second 16-year-old juvenile from Carson City with gunshot wounds to both legs at the 3000 block of Carmine Street. The victim was transported to Renown Medical Center by ground ambulance and later discharged from the hospital.

Following the medical release of the Carson City juvenile, he was arrested at 12:42 a.m., for suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm within the city limits, and transported to the Carson City Juvenile Detention Center.

At the scene of the shooting incident at the 3300 block of East Carmine Street, CCSO detectives were able to identify two additional suspects that had fled the area on foot prior to law enforcement arrival. Both suspects were possibly armed with handguns.

The suspects were identified as a 17-year-old Carson City juvenile female and 15-year-old Carson City juvenile. They were also able to determine approximately 17 shots had been fired from handguns and several vehicles were damaged by an escaping vehicle that was ultimately recovered at Sherman Lane and Concord Drive. Inside the vehicle that had fled the area, Detectives recovered multiple baggies of marijuana and mushrooms.

At approximately 4:10 a.m., a Sheriff’s Office Tactical Team made contact with the 17-year-old female suspect at the 1600 block of Sonoma Drive. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

At approximately 6:40 a.m., a Sheriff’s Office Tactical Team made contact with the 15-year-old juvenile suspect at the 400 block of Winnie Lane and took him into custody without incident.

Throughout the operation, the Carson City School District remained in close contact with the Sheriff’s Office to ensure the on-going safety of the schools was a top priority. Extra Sheriff’s Deputies and Juvenile Probation Officers have been assigned to the schools to enhance security of the Carson School District.

As of this press release, charges related to the final two taken into custody are pending.

This investigation remains active. Anyone with information should contact the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division at 775-283-7856, or 775-887-COPS.
