Carson City sheriff's deputies make weekend arrests for larceny, DUI and domestic battery

A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 7:57 a.m. in the 1200 block of South Carson Street for misdemeanor petit larceny and possession of a shopping cart, a sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to Lowes Home Center in reference to a larceny that had occurred. The deputy was informed the suspect was wearing black pants, a blue jacket and was pushing a red shopping cart.

A deputy located the subject in the parking lot of 1250 South Carson Street with a Lowe’s shopping cart and two Dewalt tool sets. He was asked where he had come from. The man raised his arms in the air and stated he wanted to exercise his Fifth Amendment rights and did not wish to speak.

He was taken into custody. A Lowe’s employee positively identified the man as taking property, valued at $308, from the store. He was booked for petit larceny and possession of a shopping cart. Bail: $704.

— A 23-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 10:07 a.m. for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI drugs, careless driving, and failure to maintain a lane of traffic.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to an injury accident at Silver Sage Drive and Chateau Drive. He arrived on scene with another deputy and observed a red Ford Explorer off the street into a residence fence on Chateau.

A deputy spoke with the driver who stated she did not need medical attention. She was asked what happened in which she stated she was driving from Pat Lane onto Silver Sage and her Vape pen rolled off her legs onto the floor. She said she reached down to grab the Vape pen, felt a large bump and looked up and could not stop in time before hitting the fence.

While speaking with the woman, the deputy observed a white, frothy substance around the corner of the woman’s mouth and on her tongue. She had slow speech and could not focus completely on questions she was asked, the arrest report states.

The deputy suspected drug use and performed standardized field sobriety tests on the woman, who stated she is a recreational marijuana user. She submitted to a preliminary breath test and blew a .000. She was arrested for suspicion of DUI drugs, careless driving and failure to maintain a travel lane. Bail: $1,466.

— A 22-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 9:32 p.m. at an apartment unit at 20 College Parkway for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the apartment complex for a report of domestic battery. The victim contacted dispatch and stated his girlfriend had punched him in the face with a closed fist.

The woman stated she was having a verbal argument with her boyfriend regarding responsibilities around the house and taking care of the kids. She said the argument became heated and went into the bathroom to cool off and take a shower. After further conversation, she stated she hit her boyfriend in the face because she wanted to get away from the situation. She denied her boyfriend hit her during the argument.

The man had a contusion on his right cheekbone that was consistent with being punched. The woman was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,000.

— A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 1:32 a.m. in the area of Telegraph and Carson streets for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and driving the wrong way on a 1-way street.

According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop after observing a black Jeep with Nevada plates traveling the wrong direction on the one way street of Telegraph.

The deputy made contact with the driver who showed signs of impairment including alcohol on his breath and slow, slurred speech. The man was asked if he had been drinking and he denied it at first before admitting to it later, according to the arrest report.

He submitted to a breath test that resulted in a PBT of .170 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail he provided evidentiary breath samples of .124 and .119. Bail: $1,224.

— A 39-year-old Silver Springs, Nev. man was arrested Saturday, 12:46 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, the man allegedly slapped his 16-year-old step daughter in the face during an argument.

The arresting officer observed redness on the side of the girl’s face, which was also puffy from crying. The deputy asked the girl if she had been hit. The girl stated she was only slapped lightly.

Deputies spoke with the stepfather who advised he did not intentionally hit his daughter but did make contact with her when attempting to get her phone out of her hands and did forcefully take earbuds out of her ears.

The battery was witnessed by a reporting party and an independent witness. The man was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,000.

— A 30-year-old Reno man, Sergio Mendoza-Rubio, was arrested Monday for felony warrants alleging burglary and uttering a forged instrument, and a misdemeanor warrant alleging obtaining money by false pretenses. The warrants were issued Sept. 27, 2018 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $20,000.

— A 23-year-old Sparks man was arrested Monday, 3 p.m. for a misdemeanor warrant alleging failure to appear. The warrant was issued Nov. 13, 2018. Bail: $1,150.

— A 35-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Monday, 2:20 p.m. at an apartment located at 20 College Parkway for a misdemeanor failure to appear traffic warrant issued August 10, 2018 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $215.

— A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 6:10 a.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street for a misdemeanor Department of Alternative Sentencing violation. According to the arrest report, the man was found passed out on the floor near a gaming machine at a casino. A deputy arrived and got the man to wake up. He was asked if he needed medical attention. The man replied he did not.

The deputy had dispatch run his name for wants and warrants and was advised he was on Alternative Sentencing for a previous disorderly conduct charge. One of the conditions was to not drink alcohol. He provided a preliminary breath sample of .193 and was arrested. Bail: $3,000.

— A 49-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday for a misdemeanor warrant issued in December out of East Fork Township Court. Bail: $175.

— A 32-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 11:32 a.m. in the area of Firebox Road for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Jan. 16, 2019 out of Carson City Township. Bail: $5,000.
