Carson City deputies: Friday night shots fired caused by jaywalking dispute; suspect arrested on multiple charges
On Friday night, multiple calls came into Carson City dispatch stating that an individual had fired a weapon several times in the area of N. Stewart Street.
According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the 600 block of N. Stewart just after 7:30 p.m. to search for the suspect. Callers advised the suspect had a red hat, dark clothing and a backpack.
Initially, deputies detained two individuals behind Smiths who fit the description of the suspect, but while deputies were questioning them, another individual wearing a red hat arrived on scene.
The other individual, later identified as Therman Porche, was detained by another deputy near the library.
A witness from the shooting identified Porche as the suspect, and also stated one of the two subjects being detained at Smith’s had been with Porche during the incident.
Deputies spoke with the detained individual, who admitted to witnessing the crime. He said Porche had been walking in the roadway when a driver of a vehicle yelled at Porche. Porche then produced a handgun and fired three to four shots into the air.
The man said he did not actually see a gun, but that he heard the shots, and still had loud ringing in his ears.
A search of the area near the library was conducted, and a handgun was located.
Porche was taken into custody and was transferred to a patrol vehicle. On the way to the jail, the report stated Porche began kicking the door and the cage in the back of the vehicle.
Deputies informed Porche they would be getting a warrant to swab his hands for gun shot residue after he refused a voluntary swab. Inside the jail, Porche was seen on camera urinating on his hands and wiping the front and back of his hands in what appeared to be an attempt to destroy any evidence from discharging the weapon.
Porche was booked for felony possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, destruction of evidence, discharging a weapon where a person might be endangered, and discharging a firearm in public.
Bail: $27,637
