Douglas County authorities determine suspicious item in dumpster was smoke grenade
Douglas County authorities were called Wednesday afternoon after a suspicious device, thought to be a stick of dynamite, turned out to be a smoke grenade.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was called at 2:25 p.m. to the 1300 block of Centerville Road after the item was found inside a dumpster. The Douglas County Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team also responded to the scene and determined the item was an old smoke grenade or a gopher bomb.
The smoke grenade was safely recovered and will be disposed of by the EOD team, said Sgt. Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks.
The EOD Team wants to caution the public that if a suspicious item is located, not to touch the item and contact the local authorities immediately.
