Carson City Supervisors approve additional funding for Ron Wood rental assistance program
Additional funding was approved Thursday for the Ron Wood Family Resource Center in Carson City by unanimous vote of the Carson City board of Supervisors.
The center previously requested and was approved for $120,000 and $100,000 during 2022 for the Ron Wood Family Support for COVID-19 Rental Assistance Program.
Due to a continued need for rental assistance within the community, a discussion of an additional $61,000 in funding was held and approved by supervisors.
Funding comes from the Community Development Block Grant — COVID Grant, also known as the CDBG — CV grant.
“This program has been very successful here in the last year and a half to two years,” Administrator Mirjana Gavric said. “If granted this money would help Ron Wood continue their rental assistance program for Carson City families and individuals.”
According to Gavric, the majority of the rental assistance program funding goes to individuals new to the program — there are very few families that take repeated assistance from the program.
Members of the community gave public comment on how important the work Ron Wood does for the community and without them, the housing crisis would be significantly worse.
