Lyon County Sheriff's Office issues regional alert following second abduction attempt
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office has issued a region-wide alert after two child abduction attempts in the past two days.
The agency is asking all residents to be on the lookout for a van painted black (or dark green) and possibly with some red on it, too.
This vehicle was involved in the attempted child abduction that took place in the Sutro area on Thursday, Jan. 17 and also a second attempted child abduction last evening, Friday, Jan. 18 in the Dayton Valley Road and Palmer Court area.
The suspect description from the second attempt is similar to the description from the first one, and is as follows:
— White Male
— 30s age range
— Brown (but balding) hair with a goatee
— Unknown tattoo on the left side of his neck approximately two inches by two inches in size.
At this time, we have a better description of the actual van in question. It is similar to the one in the attached picture, which is a stock photo only and not the actual van.
The suspect van is spray painted with green, black, and red paint in an attempt to create a Do-It-Yourself camouflage appearance.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is investigating these two incidents and are scouring the area in search of this vehicle, but it is asking for your help.
If you see this vehicle or are familiar with it, please notify the Lyon County Sheriff's Office immediately by dialing 9-1-1 or by calling our 24-hour non-emergency number at 775-577-5023.
If you have any additional tips in this case, you can also call Secret Witness at 775-322-4900 if you wish to remain anonymous.
And finally, please talk with your children about this matter to ensure they will know what to do if confronted by this suspect, or any other stranger.
If you notice a slower response time from deputies in regards to other calls, please be aware that deputies have continued to field numerous tips throughout the day regarding the two attempted abductions and that's delaying their response time to other non-emergency calls.
If you've called in a tip but have not received a deputy response yet, please call again at 775-577-5023.
