Carson City sheriff's deputies make domestic battery, DUI arrests over weekend

A 35-year-old man was arrested Jan. 15 for suspicion of felony battery resulting in substantial bodily harm, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Jonathon Badbear was taken into custody at 2 p.m. in the 500 block of East William Street. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the location, where the suspect was seen kicking another man. Deputies arrived and made contact with the suspect. The deputy observed the injured male adult lying on the ground with blood in his mouth, swelling on his face and a split open lip.

The deputy observed the suspect had blood on his shoes and hands and did not cooperate when asked for his name. He told the deputy that he was trying to wake up the man, the report states.

The reporting party who called the incident into dispatch positively identified the suspect as the person who was kicking the victim. The victim as taken by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno due the seriousness of his injuries. The suspect continued to be uncooperative and was taken directly to booking by jail deputies. Bail: $10,000.

In other arrests:
— A 26-year-old man was arrested Jan. 15 for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery in the 1000 block of South Carson Street, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

The man is accused of grabbing the victim by the arm causing bruising, grabbing her by the hair, mouth and face. An independent witness said they saw the man pull the victim by the hair.

The suspect also reportedly grabbed the victim's phone and threw it twice. There was no damage to the phone. He also reportedly broke the door frame to force himself inside the apartment that he shared with the victim.

The suspect, who admitted he was intoxicated, said the couple was arguing, characterizing it as "a little bit of disagreement" over "couple stuff" and insisted he would never physically harm the woman, the booking report states. The deputy noted in the report the man was adamant no battery had occurred between him and the woman.

The man was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. He stated he was confused why he was being arrested and continued to deny any physical contact between him and the woman. He provided a preliminary breath test of .208. He was taken to jail, and was uncooperative with jail deputies. Bail: $3,137.

— A 41-year-old Fernley woman was arrested Jan. 14 for a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear and petit larceny. She was also booked for driving without a valid driver's license and no proof of insurance. Bail: $2,749.

— A 54-year-old man, Dennis William Denault, was arrested Jan. 17 for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and three misdemeanor offenses: possession of drug paraphernalia, expired registration and no vehicle insurance. Bail: $4,446.

— A 42-year-old Dayton woman, Racheal Chaney-Gomes, was arrested Jan. 17 for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and three misdemeanor offenses: suspended registration, suspended license, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $4,386.

— A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Jan. 16 for suspicion of DUI, failure to maintain a lane and driving without a valid license.

According to the booking report, at 1:25 a.m. a CCSO deputy observed a vehicle traveling northbound on North Carson Street enter the I-580 freeway. The deputy observed the vehicle was driving approximately 35 mph on the freeway, where the speed limit is 65 mph. The officer observed the vehicle failing to maintain a lane of travel, with its front left and rear tire traveling into the number 2 lane.

The vehicle exited the highway on Eastlake Boulevard, turned westbound on Eastlake then turned southbound onto the I-580 ramp to enter the freeway again. The vehicle got on I-580 and was traveling approximately 35 mph, again failing to maintain a lane a second time, the arrest report states.

A deputy conducted a traffic stop, where deputies suspected the driver was under the influence. The driver conducted field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test of .129 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail he provided an evidentiary blood test. Bail: $1,416.

— A 55-year-old Carson City man was arrested Jan. 25 for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, eluding and failure to maintain a lane.

According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched following a report by a deputy transporting an inmate that they were behind a vehicle, the crossed over the center line approximately five times, and continued to fail to maintain a lane of travel down Roop Street.

A deputy responded and pulled behind the vehicle, activating their overhead emergency lights. The vehicle continued and didn't stop, in which the deputy then turned on their siren. The vehicle failed to yield and continued to drive at speeds of 25 mph to 35 mph in marked 25 mph and 35 mph zones. The vehicle came to a stop on Oak Street.

The male driver and only occupant complied with commands and appeared intoxicated. He was placed under arrest for eluding. He was placed in a patrol unit and was asked if he would consent to field sobriety tests. The man stated "whatever."

He was asked if he would consent to a voluntary blood draw. The man replied no. He refused to provide a preliminary breath test. The District Attorney's office was contacted and a telephonic warrant to seize a blood sample was granted by a Carson City judge. Bail amount listed: $2,361.

— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for suspicion of DUI second offense, a gross misdemeanor, and four misdemeanor offenses: following too close, failing to maintain a travel lane, speeding, 21-plus over the limit, license revoked for DUI, and two counts violation of pre-trial conditions.

According to the booking report, a deputy conducted a traffic stop after after the driver came up behind the deputy at a high rate of speed, and began following too close, then passed the deputy, traveling 60 mph in a 25 mph zone. The deputy followed the driver, who failed to maintain his travel lane. The deputy initiated a traffic stop. The driver pulled into a parking lot. The officer made contact with the driver and could smell the odor of alcohol coming from his person.

The deputy asked the man to step out of the vehicle and come to the patrol car. When the man stepped out, the officer observed an empty bottle of Cherry Limeade 99 proof on the driver's side floorboard. The man showed signs of impairment and admitted to drinking 5 bottles of the Cherry Limeade 99 proof alcohol, the report states. He submitted to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment.

He provided a preliminary breath test of .341 and was arrested. He was taken to the hospital due to the high level of intoxication. He submitted to an evidentiary blood draw. Bail: $6,000 cash only for the two counts violation of pre-trial conditions. Total bail amount of the other alleged offenses: $4,028.
