One confirmed fatality at Tahoe Ski Resort Avalanche Friday morning
UPDATE 3:42 p.m.: Search and Rescue and PCSO have called off the search and are confirming there are no further victims of the avalanche to be found. Cole Comstock, 34, of Blairsden, CA has been identified as the deceased in the avalanche that occurred at Alpine Meadows.

According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), there is one confirmed fatality and a second victim with serious injuries following an avalanche at Alpine Meadows in Lake Tahoe.
PCSO deputies and the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue team responded to the Alpine Meadows Ski Resort just after 10:30 a.m. Friday for a reported avalanche near the Subway ski run, according to the Placer Sheriff Twitter page.
Search and Rescue volunteers are currently searching for more potential unaccounted victims.
“This is an area of the resort that is an advanced ski area and at this point there is no reason to believe that any other are of the resort or tAlpine Meadows is in jeopardy,” said Sgt. Mike Powers in a video update on the Twitter page. “Currently we have one confirmed fatality and we have another victim with serious injuries. We are scouring the mountain right now with search and rescue personnel and avalanche dogs in an attempt to locate any other victims.”
The Ski resort is still open, but the area near the Subway ski run is closed until further notice.
