Carson City School District seeks applicants for vacant trustee post
The Carson City School District is seeking applicants for an appointment to its District 6 Trustee seat, CCSD Superintendent Richard Stokes said.
The seat was left vacant by Susan Hart, who resigned in December as she prepared to move out of state, the school district office said.
Hart had been appointed to the CCSD Board of Trustees in May 2016, the district office said. Her resignation was effective Jan. 1.
District 6 makes up the southwest corner of Carson City, from about Kings Canyon Road and Fifth Street south the Douglas County line and east to Colorado Avenue, as well as southeast along Clearview Drive to South Edmunds, Snyder, Bigelow and Center Drive areas.
The vacant Trustee seat is open until filled, the district said. Interviews will be conducted in an open panel format with the school board at its next meeting, Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street.
CCSD Board of Trustee seats are volunteer community service positions. They are paid a $400 monthly stipend, Stokes said.
Stokes said there are few ways better to serve the local community than on the district school board.
"Service as a school board member is one of the highest forms of community service," he said. "Helping to guide the educational programs for our children is without a doubt a key aspect to raising our future citizens."
Qualifications for the post include being of at least legal voting age of 18 and currently residing in the District 6 boundaries found here.
Resumes and letters of interest should be submitted to Executive Board Administrative Assistant Renae Cortez at 1402 W. King Street, P.O. Box 603, Carson City, NV 89702.
Applicants are advised that the Board of Trustee seat is an elected post, and any information provided in the resume and letter of interest becomes available to the public.
The appointed candidate will be expected to complete the remainder of the two-year elected term, which expires in 2018, and to run for election should they wish to continue their service on the board.
