"Labyrinth" a fine fantasy movie with David Bowie
The Carson Library’s collection of DVDs is pretty extensive and even includes old VCR tapes of movies on a take and return, no date required.
One of the lesser known but very good DVDs is "Labyrinth," starring David Bowie as the Goblin king and a cast of incredible characters crated by Jim Henson for the movie. Also starring is Jennifer Connelly, who plays a teen with a lot of imagination. She’s left in charge of her baby brother Toby, who disappears when she utters the key words to take him to the Goblin Palace, where Bowie awaits along with him minions.
It’s a long hike for Jennifer to reclaim Toby and she is aided along the way by three of Henson’s best-imagined characters. All sorts of problems hold Jennifer up, but she sticks with it and finally in a scene inspired by the artist Escher (he of weird stairways) finds and rescues Toby.
Not a block-buster but a very clever and well-done production, with George Lucas as producer.
This is PG, runs about 101 minutes and has captions if needed. Just relax and enjoy the scenery!
