Report: Ormsby House hasn’t been sold for condos — yet
A social media post on Facebook stating that the historic, ill-fated Ormsby House had been sold to be turned into condos is not accurate, according to the Carson City Building Permits Office.
Kathe Green, Assistant Planner of Community Development, said that although there was interest by a pair to buy the Ormsby House and potentially turn it into condos, they never showed up for the meeting, and no meeting was rescheduled.
The social media post, appearing on Facebook's Carson City Community Blog Forum, indicated information was obtained through the AM-PM convenience store adjacent to the Ormsby House, where the poster claimed store officials there had told them the convenience store business and Arco gasoline station would be shut down and demolished for the project.
AM-PM representatives declined to comment on whether or not its property is for sale or has sold and is scheduled to be demolished. They also declined to comment on any connection with the Ormsby House.
While the Ormsby House hasn’t yet been sold for condos, the notion isn’t unfounded.
An idea has been floated to turn the Ormsby House into a mixed residential and commercial building, similar to the new mixed-use Curry Street building, which has residential apartments on the top floor and businesses on the first and second.
