Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Elderly woman booked for felony deadly weapon battery

An 82 year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. in the 200 block of Allouette Way on felony battery with a deadly weapon charge, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

Keiko Jaquay was taken into custody following a report of a domestic dispute.

Jaquay was the original reporting party (RP) on the call. A dispute between her and her son's girlfriend developed because the latter reportedly drinks and was told by the former to get out of the house, the arrest report said.

Jaquay stated the girlfriend refused to leave and was pushing her out the door. The girlfriend had left residence prior to law enforcement's arrival, the report said.

During the interview with deputies, Jaquay then said multiple times, "it is my fault," "this is all my fault," and "problem is I caused it."

She also told deputies "I was going to kill her. I had a knife in my hand because I was cutting vegetables, and I could have easily killed her."

She also said, "I was more than happy to do it." Jaquay stated she stabbed towards her son's girlfriend "quite a few times."

During the investigation of the incident, the girlfriend returned to the residence and was interviewed by law enforcement.

She was unable to recall what had happened, but did acknowledge the argument with her boyfriend's mother. She could not, however, recall the time and location of the dispute with the mother.

Deputies noted alcoholic odor coming from the woman's breath, and she admitted to having consumed two shots. She struggled to keep her times and information straight pertaining to the incident, the report said.

The woman denied pushing the RP, stating she did not put her hands on her.

A neighbor was also interviewed as a witness pursuant to the case. The witness stated she had heard a crash next door and came out to check on Jaquay, whose back was turned to the neighbor.

She was observed in the doorway of the residence holding a knife in one hand. Her son's girlfriend was inside the residence facing Jaquay and appeared to be pushing her, the report said.

The neighbor reported that the woman pushed past Jaquay, who then came out of the doorway and stood with her neighbor, knife in hand.

Upon interviewing the girlfriend again, she told deputies that she did not want to press charges and that "it didn't hurt me, ok?"

When asked by deputies to elaborate, the woman stated she was hurt by the knife that Jaquay was holding, but was unsure what had happened. The woman said she had bled a little bit.

A small hole was observed in the woman's shirt.

The woman stated Jaquay had threatened her with a knife, telling her to "get out," before stabbing at her three times.

Jaquay is alleged to have told the woman that she wished she was dead and to go away.

Jaquay was subsequently placed in handcuffs under arrest. She made the following statement incident to her arrest: "I would have cut her if I could."

As she was placed in the patrol vehicle, Jaquay was heard saying "I want to kill her. I should have killed her."

Jaquay was then transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $20,000.

In other arrests:

— A 33 year-old Carson City man was arrested early Friday morning at 3:33 a.m. in the area of N. Curry and W. John streets for felony heroin possession, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

Joseph Hoover was taken into custody after a Sheriff's deputy observed him appearing to be sleeping in the driver's seat of a black GMC SUV parked behind closed businesses.

Further observation of the subject in the driver's seat showed him to be sweating and displaying pale skin. There was a clear plastic baggie visible on his lap as well, the arrest report said.

The deputy knocked on the driver's side window and made contact with the subject, who appeared disoriented as he attempted to roll down the window without the vehicle being turned on.

The subject opened the vehicle door when asked and was also in the process of placing hypodermic needles and spoons into the center console while speaking with law enforcement, the report said.

A K-9 unit was called to the scene and performed a free air sniff, which featured a positive alert.

The subject, identified as Hoover, was ordered to exist the vehicle and place his hands on his head. But instead, he began reaching for his waistband upon exiting the vehicle, the report said.

This resulted in the deputy pinning Hoover against the vehicle to remove his hand from his waistband. When that happened, a clear plastic baggie fell to the ground next to Hoover, who was detained in handcuffs for safety.

A weapons search of Hoover recovered hypodermic needles and a broken spoon featuring heroin residue on it, the report said.

Inside the dropped baggie was three grams of suspected black tar heroin. The substance was field tested presumptive positive for heroin, the report said.

A vehicle search recovered several more hypodermic needles, spoons with heroin residue on them and a baggie of used cotton balls.

Hoover was placed under arrested and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $3,637.

— A 59 year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday night at 7:23 p.m. in the 500 block of Linda Kay Court for misdemeanor obstruction, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported, after he resisted law enforcement that was responding to a domestic battery call.

According to the arrest report, Sheriff's deputies arrived at a residence on Linda Kay Court to investigate a domestic battery report and made contact with two occupants inside.

The subjects, both male, were sitting in the kitchen area of the residence. Both males were given instructions for a weapons pat-down. One subject complied, but the other refused verbal orders, the arrest report said.

When ordered to show his hands to deputies, the subject refused by keeping his left hand hidden behind him. Instructed multiple times by officers to show both of his hands, the subject failed to comply, the report said.

At that point, one deputy grabbed the obstinate subject by his right arm and attempted to escort him from his seat. But the subject resisted by trying to remain seated. He also tried to pull away from the officer, the report said.

The second deputy then grabbed the subject by his left arm. He tensed up, though, and still continued trying to pull away from officers.

He repeated this behavior multiple times, the report said, remaining uncooperative with law enforcement.

In an effort to detain the subject, a leg sweep was performed that caused the subject to go to the ground. He was immobilized that that point, but still resisted officers and failed to comply.

At last, the subject was warned a taser would be used if he failed to cooperate. He continued to resist, so a taser was used to subdue the subject and safely place him in handcuffs.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $412.

— On the same call and at the same Linda Kay Court location, a 60 year-old Carson City man was arrested for misdemeanor first-offense domestic battery as well as an outstanding contempt of court warrant, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

The man was one of two males upstairs in the residence. The first had physically obstructed deputies and had to be tased before being placed under arrest.

The other was questioned about a domestic battery report made by his step grandchild, who lived in the same residence with her grandparents and siblings.

She told deputies the suspect had threatened her twin brother because the latter was said to be "disrespectful," the report said.

The reporting party (RP) stated her step-grandfather and brother began yelling at each other over the cell phone that the latter was holding. The suspect then tried to get the phone from the victim by scratching his chest and choking him, the report said.

The RP said the suspect also struck and started to choke her when she tried to intervene. When the RP's grandmother and sister attempted to stop the fight, they were pushed to the ground by the suspect. The suspect also reportedly kicked a toddler during the altercation, the report said.

Deputies interviewed the grandmother, who was very upset and did not want the suspect to go to jail. She did not want the deputies at the residence, either.

The grandmother stated she tripped over a fan in the way while trying to stop the fight, and that is why she fell. She said she did not think the suspect did anything wrong, yelling at the children and stating they caused the incident, the report said.

The male victim stated the suspect attempted to grab the phone away from him and they began wrestling over it.

He reported that the suspect scratched and choked him, the report said.

Deputies observed large scratch marks on the victim's chest.

They then made contact with the suspect, who stated that the RP and male victim were out of control and do no listen. He claimed the two teamed up and attacked him, explaining that he was only trying to defend himself, the report said.

When asked how the male victim got scratched, the suspect stated he was unsure.

A records check through Carson City Dispatch showed the suspect had a confirmed bench warrant issued by the Reno Township Justice Court for misdemeanor contempt of court.

He was detained in handcuffs and taken into custody at that point, transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $6,137.

— A 50 year-old transient man was arrested Thursday morning at 9:38 a.m. in the 2200 block of E. William Street on felony charges of failure to register as a sex offender, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

William Owen Soto was taken into custody after Sheriff's deputies recognized him from inside of his vehicle, located in the parking lot of Mills Park.

Soto was known from prior law enforcement contacts as a suspicious person sleeping in his vehicle in the Mexican Dam area. He was also known as a registered sex offender, the report said, with a registered address at a church on N. Saliman Road, the December location of a cold weather shelter.

That shelter had since moved for January, the report said, and law enforcement was unable to contact anyone at the church.

Upon making contact with Soto, deputies were told that he was staying at the Methodist Church at Second and Division streets downtown, the current location of the cold weather shelter.

Because this new address was not reported to authorities, and he had been seen just days before sleeping in his vehicle, the suspect was placed under arrest for failing to register.

He was transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $5,000.

— A 42 year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday afternoon at 1:18 p.m. in the 1700 block of Brown Street for misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

According to the report, a Sheriff's deputy was dispatched to a Brown Street residence on report of a suicidal subject.

Contact was made with the subject, who answered the door and denied being suicidal. She did, however, state she had an active warrant out for her arrest.

A records check through Carson City Dispatch confirmed the suspended sentence violation and she was detained in handcuffs.

Deputies then transported her to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $1,000.
