Carson City nonprofit helps pave awareness of human trafficking locally and statewide
January is Human Trafficking Awareness month and Exquisite, a nonprofit located in the heart of Carson City, is committed to being a resource for our community.
Blue has been designated as the color representing human trafficking awareness. To help bring awareness to Carson City and our state, Xquisite has placed blue bows along our main street to remind us that there are victims being exploited in our community and across the nation. Human trafficking is not a third world problem, it exists right here.
Recently there have been numerous arrests right here in Carson City and the rural areas from men seeking to have sex with girls under the age of 18. We have worked with a trafficking victim within the last 2 months who was fleeing her trafficker and needed emergency medical treatment as a result of her escape.
Awareness of the signs and symptoms of human trafficking and what it looks like here are so important to become aware of. Once you become aware, you can no longer remain neutral or silent. As a community, we can make a difference! Together we are bolder, braver and stronger in the fight against human trafficking. Doing nothing is not an option. As you drive by the blue bows this month, ask how you can make a difference.
Tuesday, Jan. 11 is designated as Human Trafficking Awareness Day and we encourage you to wear blue. You can show your support by joining thousands of people who agree that human trafficking should no longer exploit and terrorize vulnerable victims.
If you would like to become more aware of how human trafficking exists here our community or want to become involved, you can contact us at info@xquisite.org and check out our website www.xquisite.org and you can follow us on Facebook and Instagram, xquisite_nonprofit.
