Carson City Sheriff's Office seeks volunteers for VIP citizen policing program
The Carson City Sheriff's Office is looking to expand its Volunteers in Partnership program and is looking for citizens to assist and participate. Also known as VIPS, the sheriff's office is looking for persons to assist in citizen patrol, administrative support, front counter reception and the jail visitation program.
Those interested are invited to schedule a ride along or plan time with a volunteer to see if the program would make a good fit.
This program enables citizens 18 years of age or older with an interest in assisting law enforcement and providing community service, the opportunity to volunteer as VIPS and serve through the Sheriff’s Office. This important partnership between the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Carson City is designed to make the community a safer, better place to live.
Volunteers will be subject to a background check and should be willing to commit to at least 8 hours a month. However, there may be times when specialized tasks require additional hours. Volunteers receive training in various law enforcement and related functions that include: Detention, records, radio training as well as crime prevention and citizens patrol. There’s also the VIPS for Vets program.
The VIP program is consistently growing and new volunteers are always welcome. If you are interested, contact Ken Smith, Volunteer Coordinator, for further information. You can visit him at the sheriff's office, 911 East Musser Street. The telephone number is (775) 887-2020, Extension 41932 or (775 283-7810.
