Autopsy pending in homicide investigation of Lyon County man
On Jan. 5, 2023 the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Command Staff was briefed on an incident that occurred the night of Dec. 24, 2022 in Fernley.
At approximately 10:25 p.m. on Dec. 24, 2022 the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call reporting that a male subject had been found, unconscious and not breathing, inside a residence in the 600 block of Canary Circle in Fernley.
As a result, emergency medical personnel from the North Lyon Fire Department and deputies from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office were immediately dispatched to the residence.
Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived on scene within six minutes of the initial 911 call. Once on scene, Dean Sandoval, 57, of Fernley was located and determined to be deceased.
Due to suspicious circumstances located at the scene, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Investigations Division responded to the scene and initiated a homicide investigation.
An autopsy of Sandoval’s remains was conducted by the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. The results of the autopsy, as well as an official cause of death, are currently pending.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Investigations Division is confident there is no current threat to the community.
