Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series returns with 2017 summer concert series
The Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series elevated the Brewery Arts Center’s existing summer concert series, filling the Minnesota Street Stage with free, live music and transforming an underused street in the heart of downtown Carson City’s Historic District into a vibrant gathering place for the surrounding community.
The concert series will return again for 2017, according to Gina Lopez Hill, executive director of the Brewery Arts Center, which was responsible for last year's and this year's proposal to bring the concert series to Carson City and getting Carson City residents to vote for the capital city's chances online. The announcement was made on the Brewery Arts Center Facebook page.
Concert dates and venues will be announced at a later date.
"We are completely thrilled and thankful to Carson City for voting for The Levitt amp series to return this summer," said Lopez Hill. "We will do our best to be great stewards of this honor and bring you another great summer concert series free to every citizen and every visitor of Carson City."
The public voted on the submitted proposals over a three-week period in November, selecting their favorite projects online at http://levittamp.org.
"We are thrilled to announce the 2017 Levitt AMP Grant Awards winners. Each made a compelling case for how the Levitt AMP Music Series will activate a public space and strengthen the social and economic fibers of their communities," says Sharon Yazowski, Executive Director of the Levitt Foundation. "The Minnesota Street Stage corridor has proven to be the ideal place for the Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series, bringing the city together and highlighting the space as an ongoing and welcoming destination for everyone in Carson City to enjoy."
In 2016 the Brewery Arts Center brought the Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series to life on the Minnesota Street Stage, transforming an abandoned corridor into a point of community pride that brought together people from all walks of life. The 2017 series will further activate Downtown Carson City’s Historic District, helping to realize its potential as an epicenter for the arts. Thousands took in the concerts over the 10-week period in the capital city.
The 15 Levitt AMP winners hail from small towns like St. Johnsbury, Vt.; Middlesboro, Ky.; Berea, Ky.; Jacksonville, Ill.; Denison, Texas; Stevens Point, Wis.; Hattiesburg, Miss.; and Sheboygan, Wis.; to mid-sized cities spanning the country including Ocala, Fla.; Utica, N.Y.; Santa Fe, N.M.; Trenton, N.J.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; and Greensboro, N.C. Each winner will present 10 free concerts featuring a diverse lineup of high caliber entertainment in 2017 as part of the Levitt AMP Music Series, for a total of 150 free Levitt AMP concerts.
