If you miss visiting the Sutro tunnel last week, there's another chance
We had a fantastic time last weekend at the Sutro Tunnel Site, fun was had by all and we were able to start the ground work to begin funding of the restoration.
We were so very excited to see the amount of interest people had in visiting the site that tickets sold out within the first week! So that we can make sure that everyone gets an opportunity to visit the site and see as much as they can at it, we are offering a tour for a group of only 20 people to the site on November 18th. We hope to start having tours on a regular basis soon, follow our Facebook and website to keep up do date on events.
No, you can't enter the tunnel....yet! We are working very hard at raising funds and getting community support so that the dream to enter the tunnel will become a reality. Who knows, maybe one day soon we can travel by cart through the tunnel and then up an elevator into Virginia City!
What you do get to do is visit a massive 28-acre historic site, learn from our fantastic tour guides Author, Dan Webster and Historian Pat Neylan. You will get to see the fantastic amount of progress our volunteers have made on the original structures. The mule barn which is the oldest building on site, the machine shop that is now also our museum, the wood shop that has been freshly refinished thanks to Dan Webster and the Dayton Boy Scouts. The warehouse is currently being worked on and you can see our progress. Get to visit the foundation of the old Sutro mansion and stand at the portal with awe and amazement. You will get the opportunity to take photos all over the site so that you may share them with friends, family and brag to those that haven't yet been able to visit this historic site.
