‘The ACES Anthology’ highlights the best in Northern Nevada writing

CARSON CITY — Author and photographer Stephen H. Provost, founder of the online bookshop hub ACES of Northern Nevada, is proud to present The ACES Anthology, a collection featuring 25 short stories and poems from some of the region’s outstanding writers.

Many of the stories in this collection are set in the Northern Nevada region, whether in the present day, the recent past, or in the colorful era of the Old West. In the pages of this anthology, you'll read stories of faerie creatures, intrepid ghost hunters, a singing cowboy, aliens, and pioneers. You'll find murder mysteries, touching stories of love and loss, creative poetry, a touch of horror, and a few unexpected twists.

The ACES Anthology features established writers — including award-winning and bestselling authors—alongside emerging authors. Whether traditionally or independently published, what they have in common is a passion for writing and a love of the singular swath of land that stretches from Lake Tahoe west to Ely and Elko: a land of majestic mountains, painted deserts, bustling cities, and ghost towns.

Established authors you’ll find here include Janice Oberding, author of more than 40 books ranging from mysteries to Nevada history and the paranormal; former Nevada Magazine publisher and historian Richard Moreno; award-winning Carson City fantasy writer Michael K. Falciani; USA TODAY bestselling author Tammy L. Grace; and Provost, who compiled and edited this volume.

The anthology also includes print debuts for four exciting new authors: retired broadcaster and advertising executive Ken Sutherland of Reno, author of the forthcoming novels "Balance" and "Heartbreaker"; Laura Magee of Gardnerville, who is working on her debut urban fantasy romance novel, "Untangled"; Lisa Kirkman, who provided an excerpt from her upcoming novel "Black Cat Walks in the Moonlight"; and Sharon Marie Provost, co-author of the forthcoming thriller/horror collection "Shadow’s Gate."

Also featured in this collection:
• Gavin Black of Reno, who just released his second novel, "The Friend Exchange."
• Jay Crowley of Jack’s Valley, author of numerous Nevada-based historical novels and short stories.
• Martin A. David of Reno, who has published approximately 1 million words in books, magazines, newspaper articles, columns, and essays.
• Fallon-based author L.F. Falconer, who has published nine novels and two short-story collections, specializing in fiction that explores the darker side of human nature.
• Reno-Sparks resident Jacqueline M. Green, a former newspaper copy editor and the author of 10 cozy mysteries and six short stories in the genre.
• Jade Griffin, author of the Lacy Moore Journals and creator of popular roleplaying games.
• Kelli Heitstuman-Tomko of Fallon, a former journalist and author of nearly a dozen titles.
• Angela Laverghetta, who recently published her first novel, a fantasy titled "The Buried Knight."
• Marie Navarro of Reno, a former journalist and author of the FeyTerrah young adult fantasy series.
• Abby Rice (aka Karen Dustman), author of the "Blue Moon" time-travel romance series among more than 25 books, including historical nonfiction.
• Richard Thomas, award-winning author of seven books and the editor of four anthologies.
• Kitty Turner, author of the tech thriller "Zone Trip."

In addition, the collection features poetry from Ashley Hanna Morgan of Reno, a licensed clinical social worker and poet; Carson City’s Sandie La Nae, a paranormal investigator and radio/TV host who has written numerous books on Nevada history; Reno’s Peggy Rew, the author of "Dog Bite Prevention: Don’t Be Scared, Be Prepared"; and Kristina Ulm, author (as Kristina Charles) of "Murder on the Mesa."

Many of the authors included in this work are also showcased on a website dedicated to displaying and promoting their works: ACES of Northern Nevada. ACES (the Authors' Collective e-Shop) is an online hub set up like a virtual bookstore and designed to introduce local authors to readers from across the region and beyond. As an outgrowth of the ACES initiative, this anthology shares that purpose.
