Depolarizing the partisan divide to be discussed Tuesday in Carson City
The American Association of University Women, Capital Branch, will feature an in-person presentation Tuesday by Ian Smith from Braver Angels, a nonprofit organization dedicated to political depolarization. All are welcome.
The event begins at 5 p.m. at the Western Nevada College Library. Braver Angels is a grassroots, cross-partisan organization working with communities across America through workshops, debates, local alliances, and other events where "red" (conservatives), "blue"(liberal), and other participants attempt to better understand one another's positions and discover their shared values.
Its stated mission is to bring Americans together to bridge the partisan divide and strengthen the democratic republic. We'll hear an overview presentation about their work followed by an opportunity for questions.
Our speaker, Ian Smith, is one of the leaders of the Ambassador program at Brave Angels. He attained his master’s in electrical engineering from MIT and worked in tech companies in Silicon Valley until the 2020 election, when he made a career switch into politics to heal our country's internal divisions. For additional information about the organization and examples of their work in communities, see braverangels.org.
Western Nevada College library is located at 2201 W College Pkwy, Carson City. Social Time is 5 to 5:30 p.m. Meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome.
