New Partnerships with Carson Medical Group and Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center Announced

Carson City, Nevada - August 29, 2012 -   Northern Nevada families now have even more access to specialized care for pediatric diseases such as cancer and blood disorders. As of September 1, 2012 patients will have the option to access these services in Carson City through an agreement with Carson Medical Group and Cure 4 The Kids Foundation.

To commemorate the new partnership, an open house is being held on September 7, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at The Carson Medical Group Pediatric Outpatient Clinic located at 1475 Medical Parkway in Carson City. Directly after the open house, the benefit concert HopeFest will take place at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center at 1535 Medical Parkway. This event is free and open to the public. Proceeds from the event benefit area cancer patients.

Dr. Caroline Hastings, Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist, has treated patients in the Reno area for more than 20 years. She currently has plans to see patients for consultations and follow up visits at Carson Medical Group on a monthly basis. Her schedule may increase to weekly clinics if the need arises.

Children needing intravenous infusions and other restorative services will receive them at the nearby Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center’s Pediatric Inpatient Unit. Cure 4 The Kids Foundation has plans to eventually offer chemotherapy treatments and infusions at the Carson Medical Group location.

The Children’s Specialty Center of Nevada, a program of Cure 4 The Kids Foundation, began offering specialized care for life threatening pediatric and blood diseases in Reno last April. Through an agreement with the physicians of Pediatric Hematology Oncology, based out of Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland, the doctors provide the kind of specialized pediatric expertise not normally available outside of metropolitan areas.

“We have so many families that are traveling through Carson City to get treatment in our Reno facility, so this just made perfect sense in terms of convenience,” says Angela Berg, Clinic Administrator at Cure 4 The Kids Foundation in Reno.

Cure 4 The Kids Foundation, a 501(c) 3 organization, has a mission to ensure all children facing devastating pediatric diseases get the treatment they need to survive, whether they have medical insurance or not.

“I know how important it is for patients and their families to receive treatment as close to home as possible,” says Caroline Hastings, M.D. “Being able to expand our reach into Carson City will benefit our patients who come from Minden, Gardnerville, Kingsbury, Wellington and beyond.”

About Cure 4 The Kids:
The Children’s Specialty Center of Nevada and the Hemophilia Treatment Center Of Nevada are funded, in part, by the Cure 4 The Kids Foundation.  The 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization was founded in 2007 by Dr. Jonathan Bernstein to ensure children with life threatening illnesses received proper medical attention regardless of their family’s income or presence of health insurance.  To date, more than 8,000 patients have been treated by physicians and medical staff at the Children’s Specialty Center and Hemophilia Treatment Center.  The Children's Specialty Center provides medical treatment to children facing devastating diseases such as cancer, rheumatological diseases, as well as rare and ultra rare diseases. All our providers are Board Certified in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. The Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) of Nevada is the only Federally recognized HTC in the state.  It is one of 140 HTCs around the country which provides individual services to children and adults with inherited bleeding disorders. Studies show people with Hemophilia who are treated at Federally recognized HTCs have lower overall healthcare costs, lower hospitalization rates and lower mortality rates than non-HTC users.
