Huge largemouth bass caught by Carson City man along Carson River
Carson City resident and fishing enthusiast Kevin Andrews sent us photos of his latest catch, a very large, largemouth bass he caught Wednesday on the Carson River which may either be a record-breaker for the river or pretty close.
The 18-inch fish had a 15-inch girth. While Andrews didn't have a scale on him, he felt the fish certainly would have measured up weight wise to be among the Carson River's biggest native largemouth bass.
He landed the fish near Mexican Dam using an ultra light shad Rapala with a 6-pound test. The fish bit 10 feet from the bank, bunkered down, before he was reeled in.
The state record for largemouth bass is 12 pounds, caught on Lake Mead March 8, 1999 by Michael R. Geary.
Andrews described catching the largemouth bass as one of the best fishing days of his life. And like so many anglers out there who respect the river and its wildlife, he took the fish's measurements, grabbed some photos and released him back into the wild.
