District Court Judge to speak at Carson Dems' tele-luncheon
Featured speaker at Monday's virtual Democratic luncheon will be James E. "Jim" Wilson, Jr., presiding judge for Department II of the First Judicial District Court, which serves Carson City and Storey Counties. First elected in 2008, Judge Wilson was re-elected unopposed in the 2014 primary and was re-elected again running unopposed in this year's primary.
Judge Wilson received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1977, then earned a Juris Doctor from the McGeorge School of Law in 1981. He has been recognized by the Nevada Supreme Court and the National Judicial College for his judicial education accomplishments, and is a leader in the Nevada judicial community, serving as Chairman of the Sierra Judicial Council, a representative on the Judicial Council of the State of Nevada, and a leader or member of the Nevada Supreme Court's commissions and committees.
Judge Wilson was raised in Carson City, earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and graduated from Carson High in 1973. He fought fires for BLM in the summer while attending UNR, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1977. After graduation he worked as a smokejumper for the U.S. Forest Service and served as a Carson City deputy sheriff, working in the patrol and traffic divisions and as a member of the SWAT team. He later served as a reserve officer in Sparks Police Department before entering law school. He has been active in local youth sports programs, as well as serving as a Boy Scout leader and PTA president.
Judge Wilson began his career as a lawyer in 1981 as a Deputy District Attorney in Elko. In 1982 the citizens of Elko County elected him District Attorney, where he served until 1986 when he left to enter private practice. He operated a solo general practice in Carson City from 1988 to 2008, when he was elected District Court Judge.
Sponsored by the Democratic Men's Committee, this event is scheduled for noon on Monday, June 15th, and will be held online via Zoom teleconference due to the temporary shutdown of in-person venues. Those wishing to be on distribution for a link to the teleconference can email Rich Dunn, Men's Committee Events Coordinator, at richdunn@aol.com.
PLEASE NOTE: Judge Wilson has requested that all attendees have pen and paper at the ready because he will start the hour off with a pop quiz on select aspects of our court system. He will happily fill in any gaps in our judicial knowledge, but he can't stay past 1 pm, so everybody please get to class on time.
