Carson City Fire Department recognizes its own at awards and promotions ceremony
The Carson City Fire Department recently hosted an awards and promotional ceremony commending its professionals for exceeding beyond the scope of their work routine.
Fire Chief/Emergency Manager Sean Slamon recognized new hires, retirements, and employee longevity. Five employees were promoted: Jon Pedrini, Battalion Chief, Travis Boggs, Captain, Matt Cooper, Captain, Driver Operators Jesse Kohler and Craig Cook.
Johnathan Wielkie was awarded the Lifesaving Medal, Johnathan was attending a church meeting with his wife, during this meeting a gentleman arrived who was observed to be profoundly suicidal, the Crisis Intervention Team was dispatched, meanwhile Johnathan established a connection with the man – both being veterans. Johnathan transported the man to the Crisis Center, he was directly responsible for this life-saving act, which occurred on Veterans Day.
The Unit Citation Medal was awarded to Diego Aramburu, Scott Baker, Jeff Friedlander, Erik Hopper, Austin Leck, and Adam Robertson for their intricate performance while executing a confined space rescue.
Jesse Horton was awarded the Meritorious Conduct Medal for his continuous inherent ability, virtue or value in mentorship, having dedicated many hours to training new recruits.
Houston Berntson and Bret Waszkiewicz were awarded the Golden Axe Award for their individual expertise, both showing a desire to take on additional tasks and completing them above the expectations.
Andy Biasotti, from Carson City Public Works was awarded the Chief’s Medal of Commendation. Andy has shown steadfast commitment to ensuring Carson City’s Fire facilities are operable, always providing high-quality work which is consistent.
Those awarded the EMS recognition include Ryan Bailey, Chris Boyer, Marc Bristol, Heath Burton, Craig Cook and Johnathan Wielkie for their efforts in administering life-saving interventions, nearly 90 percent of Carson City’s calls for help are emergency medical.
