Mark's Spring Garden in the Gardnerville Rancho's May 1st - 11th
Our cold winter created a wonderful spring bounty. Gardening centers me bringing calm to a busy life. It's as if every bulb, every flower, every vegetable are tonics for my soul.
This year's spring garden is incredible. I love sharing it with our neighbors. I've planned a lot of gardens - all different types - and I've never been this surprised and satisfied. Nature is its own gardener.
Whether it was cactus gardens in the southwest, tropical gardens on Kauai and in Jalisco, vegetable gardens in the Central Valley, my Grandma's garden in Trinity County, I always enjoy working in a garden.
We all can be stewards of the earth. That's what gardeners do. Whatever size, whatever style, a garden reflects the heart of the person who creates and nurtures it. Whether it's a couple of pots on your patio or a succulent in your kitchen, do what speaks to you.
My garden starts in early March and continues through the end of October. Soon, Oriental Poppies and Bachelor Buttons will begin to bloom. After our last frost, meadows of wildflowers and a stretch of vegetables will take root. I always think of what my gardens can do - for people to enjoy, butterflies, bees and birds to be fed.
Gardens are the legacy I leave everywhere I live. Hope you enjoy the photos!
