Dayton Museum celebrates Nevada State Historic Preservation Month
The month of May is a wonderful time to visit the historic town of Dayton and the Dayton Museum that is open every day during May for Nevada State Historic Preservation Month. The Museum is usually just open on weekends between March and November.
The Museum, established in 1994, is in the town’s original schoolhouse that was built in 1865. The schoolhouse is the oldest in Nevada that exists at its original site and the second oldest schoolhouse built in Nevada.
Today, thanks to volunteers with the Historical Society of Dayton Valley, this Museum displays hundreds of artifacts relating to the town’s culture that began in the mid 1840s when pioneers were headed West on the California Trail (Overland/Emigrant Trails.)
The Museum is open from 10 am to 3 pm on weekdays in May from 10 am to 3 pm and on weekends, open on Saturdays, 10 am to 4 pm and on Sundays, 1 to 4 pm, or by appointment throughout the year. Call 775-246-3256 or 775-246-6316 for more information.
The Dayton Museum is located at 135 Shady Lane, Dayton, Nevada.
