CD-2 candidate Ed Cohen to speak at Carson Dems' tele-luncheon
Ed Cohen, primary candidate for the House of Representatives District 2, will speak via Zoom at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon. Ed serves as Communications and Marketing Director for a Reno-based nonprofit and nonpartisan organization that provides education to the judiciary.
In 2018, Ed was honored as the employee who best exemplifies all five of that organization’s core values: integrity, leadership, justice, excellence and innovation. If he wins the primary, Ed plans to take a leave of absence from those duties to focus 100 percent of his time and effort on defeating incumbent Mark Amodei in November, thereby restoring integrity to the office.
Earlier in his career, Ed served for over tend years as associate editor of the highly regarded Notre Dame Magazine of the University of Notre Dame. He later spent three years writing for Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, named the No. 1 undergraduate business school in the nation by U.S. News & World Report during his tenure.
Though voting mostly for Democrats, Ed has essentially been a non-partisan voter most of his adult life because he believes that no party holds a monopoly on good or bad ideas, or good or bad people..
Ed's wife of 38 years, Sue, is an educator. They two grown children and recently welcomed their first grandchild, widely regarded as the most adorable baby on earth.
Ed and Sue have twice chosen to move to beautiful Northern Nevada, and they intend to live here the rest of their lives, except for when Ed is in Washington DC, proudly representing the 2nd Congressional District and working to "Make Lying Wrong Again."
Ed stays fit by repeatedly injuring himself. He has broken his foot, fingers, wrist (twice), neck, and arm (the last while running), and has suffered a concussion. In 2019 he tried skydiving and lived to tell about it.
Upon announcing his candidacy Ed said, “Defeating Trump and his enablers is the No.1 imperative in this election. But it’s not the only one. It’s time to bring quality, affordable health care to people everywhere – including hard-to-serve places like rural Northern Nevada. It’s time to devise a smart, sane and humane approach to immigration. It’s time to rebuild the middle class with fair-share tax and trade policies and support for worker’s rights to organize. It’s always time to protect Nevada’s treasured public lands. And it’s long past time to listen to climate scientists and address climate change — the disastrous effects of which we are already seeing.”
Ed brings a number of novel ideas to this campaign. They include making truth telling part of the presidential oath of office, establishing a House Honesty Caucus, publishing an Annual Report of the United States, implementing a reality-check military draft and quarterly war tax to discourage future conflicts, delinking employment from health care by creating a public option and lowering Medicare eligibility to 55, taking action to end voter suppression, gerrymandering and the electoral college, and establishing a National Journalism Day and a National Judges Day,
Sponsored by the Democratic Men's Committee, this event is scheduled for noon on Monday, May 4th, and will be held online via Zoom teleconference due to the temporary shutdown of in-person venues. Those wishing to be on distribution for a link to the teleconference can email Rich Dunn, Men's Committee Events Coordinator, at richdunn@aol.com.
