Tod Jennings for Mayor
As many of you know, my brother, Tod Jennings, is running for Mayor of Carson City, Nevada. While this might be Tod’s first foray into politics, it is by no means his first experience with public service. And let’s be clear here, politicians are public servants. Being elected into a public office by members of a community means there is an obligation to those constituents.
But I digress. Again, Tod is no stranger to public service. Upon graduating from Carson High, he reported for active duty with the United States Air Force. He served in the US Air Force for twenty-one years and change with a multitude of assignments: from Thule AB, Greenland; HQ Allied Forces North, Norway; Torrejon AB, Spain; HQ Allied Forces Central Europe, the Netherlands; King Fahd AB, Saudi Arabia; HQ AF Space Command, Cheyenne Mountain AFS, Colorado; HQ US European Command, Germany, to stints in Florida, and California.
When he finally retired from military service, he returned to the state of his birth - because after all, Home Means Nevada! He enrolled at UNR to get his teaching degree. Tod taught 8 th grade Math in Fernley, NV for one year before returning home to teach at St. Teresa’s Catholic school for five years.
Tod has spent the last four years teaching Math and Science to kids with special needs at Carson High, the school he graduated from in June 1976. Tod has also served as a member of the Board of Trustees for our church as well as a Lay Reader during our church services. In addition, he was District and Post 4 Commander for the American Legion and spent two terms on the National Public Relations Commission.
Notice a common theme here? Tod is very service oriented. If elected, Tod will bring an open mind, listening ears and a desire to serve the members of our community to the best of his abilities. Tod will come to the job with no pre-conceived notions that only he has the best ideas or knows everything — a frequent thread in his evaluations while in the USAF was his ability for building teams.
During this time of social distancing, my brother has refrained from going out and doing any kind of campaigning. We, his siblings and members of his family, have also not gone to the sign store to purchase any political signage to highlight his run for mayor. I am taking a minute, while staying home with my dog, to give you some idea of who my brother is and why I feel he will make a great mayor for this city we all love.
