Former award-winning journalist Ed Cohen files as Democrat in Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District
CARSON CITY — On Monday, former award-winning journalist and Reno resident Ed Cohen filed for Congress as a Democrat in Nevada’s 2nd Congressional district. Cohen currently works as Communications and Marketing Director for a Reno-based nonprofit and nonpartisan organization that provides education to the judiciary.
Joined by his wife Sue, Cohen discussed why he decided to get into the race, “I decided to run for this office because, like so many people, I was sickened by what I saw happening to our country.
“The lies, the ignorance, the hate, the cruelty, the appalling lack of human decency of Donald Trump and his admirers was like something out of a newsreel from another century.
“Public servants [that are] sworn to hold him accountable – primarily Republicans in Congress – turned a blind eye to presidential misconduct at a scale never seen before in our country’s history. I’m running to defeat the poster child for that partisan enabling of Trump (Mark Amodei).”
Cohen pledged to run on a message of “Truth Matters” and presented a 10-point “Constituents Bill of Rights Served by a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives,” emphasizing truth, candor, and transparency, that will guide his service to the people of the 2nd District.
Cohen said, “Defeating Trump and his enablers is the No.1 imperative in this election. But it’s not the only one. It’s time to bring quality, affordable health care to people everywhere – including hard-to-serve places like rural Northern Nevada. It’s time to devise a smart, sane and humane approach to immigration. It’s time to rebuild the middle class with fair-share tax and trade policies and support for worker’s rights to organize. It’s always time to protect Nevada’s treasured public lands. And it’s long past time to listen to climate scientists and address climate change--the disastrous effects of which we are already seeing.”
